Pallavi Singh

Taken from her series Desire to be Desired, Pallavi Singh’s work is about shifting gender roles. Focusing on the beautification of the self, her works show men appropriating the multiple means of body beautification that are normally associated with being used by women. Terming this as ‘metrosexuality’ as in a trend that has involved in the metros, Pallavi in a humorous albeit macabre vein reveals a man and a woman lounging in bathtubs in Appropriation, 2013 with the man stretching out his hand to ‘appropriate’ one of her soaps! In Because You’re Worth It, 2016 the man is seen undergoing surgery, to possibly reduce tummy fat, while in Shringar-Mala, 2015, Pallavi shows the entire beatification process as a series of six smaller works.
