The function of a Gallery [Museum], as we see it, is not the periodic arrangement of pictures on the walls with a view to their widest sale. It is to discern from amongst the confusing welter of current forms those shapes of thought which go beyond providing an insight into our poisoned times, by sustaining the precious miracle of creativity, man’s hope for the future.
