The Self Portrait: Early & Rare Woodblock Prints, Sketches & Watercolours

October 26 – December 15, 2020

Art Heritage and The Seagull Foundation for the Arts have consistently brought the works of the prolific poet, painter, philosopher, and pedagogue K. G. Subramanyan (1924-2016) to Delhi audiences. Previous exhibitions, such as Seeking a Poetry of the Real (2017-18) and Women: Seen and Remembered (2018-19), showcased his political art and his detailed study of the female form over six decades. The Self Portrait: Early & Rare Woodblock Prints, Sketches & Watercolours explores Subramanyan’s lifelong preoccupation with capturing the “inner self,” as he sketches himself at various stages of his career. The exhibition spans 40 years of his work, from the 1950s through the late 1980s, featuring both pencil and charcoal sketches as well as watercolours that depict his aging process.
