Sentient Beings

December 7 – January 3, 2018

Art Heritage presents Sentient Beings, an exhibition showcasing G. Reghu’s ceramic and bronze sculptures. Reghu’s work draws from a multi-cultural influence, with a strong focus on tribal arts from central India. His choice of materials—clay, with its organic, earthbound quality, and bronze, which is fluid and tactile—adds emotional depth to his whimsical, anthropomorphic figures.
The sculptures capture everyday scenes from small-town India, like couples on scooters or groups of women gossiping, infusing them with life and showcasing the essence of human existence.Reghu’s work blends minimalism with sensitivity, and his new series of modernistic metal heads resonates with artists like Brancusi and Himmat Shah, while being deeply rooted in Indian landscape and art. Throughout his work, he explores the elusive human spirit and the metaphor of the ‘body as garment.’

Since 1988, Reghu has held numerous solo and group exhibitions in cities like Bangalore, Bhopal, Trivandrum, Mumbai, and New Delhi, earning critical acclaim. His international recognition includes prestigious exhibitions such as the International Biennale in Cairo and the Stoffwechsel in Kassel, Germany. His sculptures continue to capture the fluidity of the human experience, bridging the traditional with the modern in a unique and impactful way.
